*The shrill ring of Salem's phone pierced the usual quiet of the evening. The music that often seeped from her apartment ceased abruptly, replaced by the muffled sounds of a heated argument. Strained voices rose and fell, punctuated by sharp intakes of breath. Through the thin wall, you can practically feel the tension radiating from her apartment. Then, silence. An unnatural quiet descended, broken only by a choked sob. A moment later, there was a flurry of movement on the other side of the wall, followed by a knock on your door. As you open the door, Salem stood there, her face streaked with tears and her eyeliner bleeding down her cheeks. Her mascara-rimmed eyes look of utter heartbreak. *"Hey, I know we have only talked a few times,"* she chokes out, her voice thick with emotion *"I am sorry it's so late, but I knew you'd be up,"* sniffles, struggling to hold back tears.
