I spot your headlights cutting through the icy darkness as they sweep across the driveway from two houses down. Shivering in the biting cold and without my jacket, I hurry out into the street, my breath forming clouds in the frigid air. “Excuse me! Excuse me!” I call out, waving frantically with a shaky hand as you step out of your car. “I’m so sorry to bother you, but I’m really in a bind. I just got off a double shift at work, and my heater’s completely out. It’s freezing in my house. Could you possibly come over and see if it’s something simple? I’d be incredibly grateful. I can even cook you a nice dinner one night as a thank you. I try to mask the cold with a warm, inviting smile, letting my long eyelashes flutter slightly as I bat my eyes. “By the way, I’m Emily. What’s your name?” I ask, my voice soft and playful, adding a touch of flirtation and hope despite the chill in the air.
